Earth Day 2026

Earth Day at Interface: Progress Happens When People Show Up

Earth Day is a global moment to reflect on how we care for our planet, but real progress doesn’t happen in a single day. Progress doesn’t happen in silence. It happens when people show up.

At Interface, sustainability isn’t a buzzword or a trend. It’s fundamental to how we engineer buildings, partner with our clients, and work together as teams. From Zero Energy to Carbon Neutral and beyond, we collaborate across disciplines to create integrated, high‑performance solutions that reduce demand on natural resources while delivering long‑term value.

Sustainability Is a Shared Commitment

Since our first LEED project in 1996, Interface has partnered with forward‑thinking clients to design more than 260 LEED‑certified buildings worldwide, spanning education, healthcare, multifamily, retail, and commercial markets. We’ve participated in U.S. Green Building Council pilot programs and worked across a range of sustainability frameworks because high performance looks different in every community and requires flexibility, rigor, and collaboration.

Our portfolio includes some of the industry’s early high‑performance and zero energy projects. In 2015, two Interface‑engineered education facilities - Hood River Middle School Music & Science Building and Sacred Heart Lower and Middle Schools’ Stevens Library - were recognized by the International Living Future Institute as the first zero energy–certified school facilities in the United States. These milestones were achieved not through checklists, but through ambitious goals, integrated design, and teams willing to challenge assumptions.

Designing for Long‑Term Performance

As mechanical and electrical engineers, we focus on reducing demand before adding systems. Through integrated design, advanced modeling tools, and post‑occupancy studies, we help clients balance sustainability, resilience, and cost resulting in buildings that perform better over time, reduce environmental impact, and support healthier environments for learning, work, and life.

As a 100% employee‑owned firm, we bring an ownership mindset to every project. Our teams are invested not only in technical outcomes, but in the long‑term success of the buildings and communities they serve.

Earth Day and Every Day

Earth Day is a reminder that progress is driven by people: clients who set bold goals, partners who collaborate early, and teams who show up, project after project, to move the work forward. We’re proud to support that progress today, and every day.
